DSCU’s mission is to advance the knowledge and practice of Security Cooperation through the education, training, and development of the U.S. Security Cooperation workforce and through the education, training, and institutional capacity building of partner nations; and to produce research, analysis, and lessons learned that expand the intellectual foundations of Security Cooperation.

The purpose of the MILSTRIP translator is to give the definition of various record positions and MILSTRIP codes used in documents in support of the Foreign Military Sales system.

Made in collaboration with Mike Hasselbeck (Creative Director) and Bevin Mclaughlin (Developer)

The Problem

The original MILSTRIP had a case of information overload. With all categories displayed at once it was easy to lose your place. The MILSTRIP requires an 80-digit code and the DSCU needed an updated version of the tool for military personnel to learn what each position of the code means.

I was tasked with creating a new interface for the MILSTRIP learning tool while still following the guidelines and brand standards for the DSCU.

Sketching

When starting my initial sketches, I experimented with ways to hide information within the shell when it was not needed

Wireframing version #1

My first version of wireframes included a tab system for the separation of the definition of the record position and the codes that could be inputted.

Wireframing version #2

contrasting from the first version, my second set of wireframes made the viewing of the record postion definition and the code definition visable at the same time.

Wireframing version #3

The third set of revisions to the wireframes utilizes a tab system while still making the record position definition and code definitions visible.
